In a post on social networks, he said he was planning to continue fighting rebel forces before Russia evacuated him.
Comments, the first in public since the overthrow of his regime more than a week ago, were made on the Syrian presidency's Telegram channel, SkyNews writes.
The statement said he left Damascus for Russia on December 8th: “a day after the regime's fall, adding: “At any moment during these events I have not considered the resignation or search for refugee. The only way to act was to carry out the fight against terrorist attack”.
At the end of the statement, it is mentioned “expectations that Syria will once again be free and independent”.
