On January 20th, among many executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to impose 25 percent fee on all products from Mexico and Canada that enter the United States”, says in a post of Mr Trump on the “Truth Social” network.
Mr. Trump said the tariffs will remain in force until both countries stop crossing into the Americas of drugs, particularly fentanyli and illegal immigrants.
The president-elect also accused China of not taking strong enough action to stop the flow of illegal drugs reaching the United States through the Mexican border.
We're going to set a 10 per cent fee to all of China's products coming to the United States, which will not be removed until they stop the drug flow”, says Mr. Trump's post.
The president-elect has earlier pledged to end the country's most favoured trade status enjoyed by China and to impose over 60 per cent tariffs on Chinese imports, much higher than those imposed during its first term.
The Chinese economy is in a much more difficult position, given the decline in housing and real estate markets, risks from public debt and the weakening of domestic consumption requirements.
