Donald Trump has confirmed that Elon Musk will co-direct the government's new efficiency department.
The president-elect said Tuesday that Tesla and X owner who is also the richest man in the world will work with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the department, which is briefly known as DOGE.
The appointment fulfils a promise Trump made to the billionaire of technology as he supported him in the competition for the White House and spent more than $1 119m on it in the seven battlefield states.
In a statement, the president-elect said Musk and Ramaswamy “would pave the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, minimise surplus regulations, cut waste and restructure federal agencies”.
In a special post he wrote: “threat to democracy? No, threat to bureaucracy”.
In a series of elections for his second administration, Trump also appointed National Guard veteran Pete Hegseth as secretary of defence and said he would appoint former national intelligence director John Ratcliffe for CIA director.
