Children in Kosovo have said that the explosion mainly occurs in social networks and schools, according to a poll conducted by the children's rights organisation Save the Children Kosova.
According to the survey, the Young Voices said 78 percent of the children were very much or on average attending their school. The same percentage applies to TikTok, followed by the next Snapchat social network by 57 percent.
Those surveyed have also said that the explosion occurs in the Instagram (45 percent) and Facebook (28 percent) as areas where so often or always.
The poll was conducted in the May-June 2024 period and 1.071 children in 16 Kosovo municipalities have participated.
The surveyed children were between 11 and 17 years of age, that is, students from seventh to 11th grade.
According to the survey, 29 percent of children have reported that they are rarely or never safe when using public transportation at night.
This concern is more pronounced in girls, with 35 percent expressing this feeling compared to 19 percent of boys”, Save the Children said.
This organisation has demanded that in schools there be stronger mechanisms to address directly the radiation and discrimination, providing cross-border training for teachers, parents and students to address these issues together”.
It is also required that there be safety on the internet and better protection mechanism for platforms like TikTok and Snapchat, while reducing technology companies, parents and educators to this <x0x1> effort.
Save the Children also demanded that institutions act urgently to improve security in public transportation, separately at night, through better security measures, lighting and awareness campaigns.
Finally, several cases of students inspired by several videos in TikTok have been reported in Kosovo. Field officials have earlier told Radio Free Europe that institutions should find effective mechanisms for preventing harmful content from social networks, recommending or halting access to TikTok.
