In this session, the new composition of the EC before European deputies will present Ursula von der Leyen, who will be at the helm of the European Union's executive wing and a new five-year mandate.
The EP set November 27th as the date for the new EC composition vote after reconciliation was reached among the main political groupings for confirming all proposed commissioners.
The proposed commissioners have passed through hearings on relevant EP commissions, and now each has received support to exercise the commissionary duty in the area that has been assigned.
Disagreements have been overcome between the three pro-European groups, the European People's Party (EPP), which is the largest group, the Socialists and Democrats (S&D), which is the second largest group and the group of liberals that has marked the decline and is the fifth group in the total number of MPs in the EP.
These three groups together have enough to vote at the plenary session the new European Commission. It is also expected that two other groups, considered to be far-right, will vote in favour of the European Commission, as candidates from these groups, such as Oliver Varhely of Hungary and Raffaello Fitto from Italy, will be in its composition.
The ruling party in Hungary is part of the “Patriot group for Europe“, while Italy's Prime Minister Georgia Mellon is part of the “Conservators and reformists” group.
Radio sources Free Europe at the EP, but also in the EC, have voiced confidence that on November 27th with the necessary majority will be voted into the new EC composition. This will enable the new Commission to officially launch the mandate on December 1st.
With the Western Balkan region in the next five years, the next session for Enlargement, Marta Kos, from Slovenia and the High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security will take place, Kaya Kallas.
Both have promised that EU enlargement will become a reality in the next five years. /Radio Europe Free
