EULEX Unit chief for monitoring cases, has stated that addressing high profile cases has marked any results, stressing that some of them are at risk of prescribing.
In the presentation of EULEX's Justice Monitoring Report, he has said Monday that from September 2022 May 2024, 230 out of 821 monitoring sessions have been counterproductive, until he added that there are still sessions that are held “without any proper progress that cause unnecessary delays”.
As far as high-profile treatment is concerned, many have not scored any results and are facing the risk of prescribing. Courts do not impose penalties for these cases. We have noted an excessive use of the detention measure systematically without proper reasoning, and it is often systematically continued. 61 people were detained for more than 2 years as different that in 2022 were 37 persons”, Eck Koster said.
According to him, progress has been noted on the issue of condemning war crimes and even fighting gender-based violence.
While EULEX Mission chief Giovanni Pietro Barbano has said the report focuses on implementing previous recommendations, emphasising areas that have been marked by progress and progress in what has been made.
The report's “findings are based on rigorous monitoring of over 300 cases. We congratulate Kosovo institutions on their sincerity and co-operation. The road to integration into the European Union requires more than reform in justice...”, he added, citing that reforms require co-operation and inclusion.
Our Source for Support is steadfast. This report is a call for action. Kosovo has the opportunity to become an EU member...”.
While EULEX monitoring pillar chief Giovanni Galzignato has said the reports have assessed specific aspects regarding the functioning of the entire chain of justice. / COMMHA/
