EU Urges Israel to Accept Ceasefire Agreement with Hezbollah

European Union diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said that “has no excuse” for Israel to refuse to implement a ceasefire with Hezbollah, the militant group and the political party that controls the southern majority of Lebanon. Borrell said all of Israel's security concerns have been addressed in the agreement brokered by the United States and France.
The top European official called for increasing pressure on Israel to beat the extremist line within the Israeli government, which is refusing to accept the deal.
Speaking in the margins of the Group of the Seven most industrialized states (G7) in Italy, Borrell warned that unless the ceasefire agreement is implemented “Lebanon will be dissolved”.
Israeli officials said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah's security cabinet will meet on November 26th to discuss the proposed ceasefire. Among the outstanding issues is an Israeli request to reserve the right to act if Hezbollah violates obligations by the new agreement.
Hezbollah has been declared a terrorist organisation by the United States, while the European Union has put its armed arm on the blacklist, but not his political party.
Borrell said the US would lead the committee to implement the ceasefire, but France would participate in it at Lebanon's request.
In the proposed agreement, brokered by the US and France, Israel has all security concerns addressed. There is no excuse for failing to implement a” ceasefire, Borrell told reporters.
Hezbollah launched attacks on the border against Israel on October 8th 2023, a day after Hamas the Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the US and the EU attacked the south of Israel, promoting the war in Gaza.
Wars between Hezbollah and Israel escalated September this year, with Israel launching massive air strikes in Lebanon and then launched a land offensive south of Lebanon.
Hezbollah has fired thousands of rockets in Israeli cities, including about 250 that it released on November 24th. /Radio Europe Free
