Countyman, in an interview for “Kosovo Online” on Tuesday has added that the Kosovo- Serbia will not be the top foreign policy priority of the United States under Donald Trump's presidential mandate at the White House.
“will not comment on Palestine and Ukraine, but when it comes to the Balkans, the problem between Serbia and Kosovo will not be Trump's first priority. In fact, it's not even going to be among the top 50 priorities of”, it's called the County.
I find that the problem of dialogue is neither in Washington nor in Brussels, but the problem is in Belgrade and Pristina. And the new American president can't change that”, he highlighted among other things the American career diplomat.
Speaking of the possibility of restoring territorial-type projects for resolving the problem between two hostile regional neighbours under US supervision, he has suggested that conflicts cannot be resolved through exchange of territories.
I said five years ago when it was first mentioned that it wasn't a good idea. It's not a good idea because there would be no end then. There are no ethnically clean states in the Balkans and if a country cannot live as a multiethnic country, the problem cannot be solved by exchanging people or territories”.
Otherwise, in the face of an uncertain future because of Trump's unpredictableness, some hope the United States course will not change, while others fear that the region can face a series of problems if Washington steps down from its permanent and historical role as a competition for regional peace and stability. / AP
