NATO has currently said in Kosovo tensions continue, and the security situation is unstable. While, it has stressed that for Kosovo's NATO membership or NATO's Partnership for Peace Programme, consensus is required from the 32 allies.

“KFOR continues to implement its long mandate of the United Nations based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 to contribute to a secure and stable environment and freedom of movement for all people and communities living in Kosovo at any time and impartially; acting as third security in response, in close co-ordination with the Kosovo Police and the EU rule mission (EULEX), which are the first and second responsible responsible for security. Tensions and instability currently continue, especially in northern Kosovo, calling for an increase in KFOR troops since May 2023. We encourage institutions in Kosovo to engage constructively in EU facilitated dialogue to help consolidate security in the Western Balkan region”, NATO's response to RTV21 said.

NATO has further said it praises Kosovo's people's positive impression of NATO. However, it does not think there has been any development in this regard.

“NATO has an open door policy. But, NATO membership or NATO's Partnership for Peace Programme requires consensus from all 32 allies, and there has been no development in this direction”.

Meanwhile, NATO emphasises that it provides support for the development of security organisations in Kosovo, through the NATO Consulting and Liaison Team (NALT). This support includes capacity building, co-ordinating education and training, including the Kosovo Security Force, in line with the initial KSF mandate for civil protection.
