The United States of America wants to see progress in the dialogue process in order to engage in Kosovo's possible membership in the Partnership for Peace.
US Ambassador to NATO Julienne Smith has ordered that Washington appreciates Kosovo's interest in membership in the Partnership for Peace, but has underlined that results in the dialogue are necessary.
Our “My friends in Kosovo have also heard us when we have said it clearly and out loud that we want them to continue investing in the EU facilitated dialogue. This is something both NATO allies and EU member states strongly support. They have our full commitment to stay engaged in the region, and we will do what we can to help them bring greater stability to the region.
And gradually, as we work towards the goals outlined in that dialogue, we will be able to consider the Partnership for Peace issue. But at the moment, the focus is on the region having more stability and seeing progress in the EU-led dialogue”, Smith has declared at a press conference.
Out of 32 NATO-numbered members, 4 have not recognised Kosovo.
The consensus of all NATO member states is needed for the admission of a country into the Partnership for Peace.
Partnership for Peace is a programme of NATO to promote confidence and co-operation between the alliance and non-member states.
Membership in this programme serves as a parliament towards full membership in the Atlantic Alliance.
