Air strikes on a medical centre in Beirut, Lebanon, have left at least six people dead, as the Israeli army suffered the deadliest day on the Lebanese front during a year of combat with Iran-backed Hezbollah.
Beirut's inhabitants heard a rocket flying over the city before they heard the sound of the explosion. On various videos came the floor of a building burning. Residents living in nearby areas began to flee, leaving on motorcycles and cars, reports the paper. “The Guardian”.
The Israeli attack struck a medical centre belonging to the Islamic Health Organisation, linked to Hezbollah, in the early hours of Thursday. This attack was the second in the central part of Beirut this week, as most of the attacks previously focused south of the city.
The Israeli army said it was targeting Beirut and issued warnings of evacuations for various areas at night. Three rockets hit the southern suburbs, Dahiyeh, where the head of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed last week, and powerful explosions were heard there, Lebanese security officials said.
Lebanese health officials said at least six people were killed and seven others were injured, adding that another 46 people were killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours.
A day after Iran fired over 180 missiles to Israel, the wider region is awaiting Israel's response. US President Joe Biden has said he does not support an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear centers.
