There are no support staff at the Law Medicine Institute. The doctor tries to perform the psychologist's function of supporting the victim from violence. The monitoring of the victim is seen by mental and social health professionals.
At the Institute of Legal Medicine, expert staff carried out documentation of injuries and clinical forensics.
But this institute lacks support staff.
We have no support staff, sociologist, psychologist for further support of the victims. But unfortunately we function in these conditions that we have and try to get the doctor to take the job or the function that the psychologist had performed in another”, said Dr. Bergita Curri.
Therefore, IML sees the need for support staff to be part of this institute.
The “would have been nice to have a psychologist, especially because we have to deal with low-age victims, sometimes we have children who are very difficult to calm and bring me up to the situation for them to cooperate to conduct the” examination, she said.
The work of mental and social health professionals is shown by sociologist Genc Xrca.
We can know the condition of the victim. Then you are given insights and counseling on how to proceed further with treatment; whether to return to the former family circle or to some temporary housing and adaptation or social integration. So these psychological and social capacities are necessary to monitor the victim and give recommendations”, Xrca said.
The Justice Ministry's priorisation of the Legal Medicine Institute is worth over 800 thousand euros.
