On the morning of October 7, 2023, thousands were still dancing as dusk fell over the Novamusic festival near Kibbutz Reim in southern Israel, near the Gaza border, Reuters writes.
Hamas had fired rockets along the Gaza border, and minutes later Hamas' soldiers had arrived by automobile and paraglades, surrounding the festival crowd and shooting at the attendees.
According to police officers, 364 people were killed, 40 were taken hostage to the Gaza Strip.
This incident had been the bloodiest in the context of a cross-border attack by the Palestinian Islamist faction, which had prompted Israel to launch an ongoing counteroffensive.
