“Dangerous step in the fight for equality”, 37 NGOs respond to Korea's Candor

A number of 37 organisations to protect human rights have reacted to recent statements by MPs Eman Candman and Visar Kornica, concerning their departure from the Vetevendosje Movement and their public opposition to the Civil Code's Draft. According to these organizations, these statements present a dangerous step in the war. [...]
According to these organisations, these statements present a dangerous step in the fight for equality and human rights in Kosovo.
” As organisations devoted to protecting human rights, we strongly condemn these statements, which distort the values defined in the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo by promoting discrimination and inequality. The Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo guarantees equal rights for all citizens, regardless of gender, sex, sexual orientation, age etc.”.
“Retorics used by these deputies and political activists who claim that certain laws, including those that support the rights of women, children, the rights of persons LGBTIQ+, are unacceptable to European countries” is not only incorrect, but also the instigation of hatred, failure and contrary to the human rights values and equality that Kosovo has pledged to guarantee by integrating international conventions to protect human rights in its constitutional constitution<3).
Kosovo must continue to build a society that respects the rights of all its citizens, regardless of gender, sex, age, their sexual orientation, gender identity, etc. Protecting the rights of vulnerable groups is in line with European human rights standards, which Kosovo has embraced as part of its path towards European integration. Ensuring these rights is a sign of progress and inclusion, not of aggression and division”, is answered in the announcement.
More importantly, all political parties, the Central Election Commission, civil society organisations, media and competent institutions “are urged to remain in their constitutional and legal duty to protect the values of the Kosovo Constitution. We call on these acts to reject divisive rhetoric intended to marginalise vulnerable groups and undermine the constitutional values of equality and justice”.
