Citizens consider prices unaffordable, with their income

Mitrovica citizens complain as food items are expensive. They say compared to last year, this year the prices for many families are unaffordable to their income.

The price hikes in many food products are continuing to be a concern for Mitrovica citizens.

They estimate that these prices are high, even for some unaffordable, compared to monthly incomes.

“5, 7, 10 euros exactly 10 euros. Our standards are very expensive, with these salaries, with these” pensions, one citizen said.

These are necessary products, and we don't buy them. Our standards are very high, they are compared to European states. Who's coming from the West saying that the prices are like there. And where are our futures where those” are, said one citizen.

The majority of citizens are unfortunately below the average standard level so that the monthly basket cannot be conveyed with the income they receive”, another citizen declared.

But to those who produce and sell these products, prices are reasonable.

For some of the people, it's high that they're scuba income, and a section that leaves 5 acres of land on the floor and rises to 60 square meters of life, it has to double. It's easy, but it's gonna take all summer waiting for these guys to sell me, it's gonna take a hell of a lot of work, it's gonna work a lot. For example, 70 cents a pound of cabbage can't earn anything. And we've waited three months for the cabbage to get into this body weight”, said one producer.

According to recent data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency, consumer prices are higher by 0.2 percent in September 2024 compared to September 2023. / RTK
