Albania opens membership negotiations for first group with EU today

Today, October 15th, is expected to mark a historic step for our country in terms of travel to the European Union.
Albania will open negotiations with the EU for the first group of chapters. The agreement of 6 Western Balkan leaders with the EU for the Berlin Process was signed yesterday (14 October), where Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was present.
The meeting, to be held in Luxembourg, will be attended by government leader Edi Rama himself, along with the team representing Albania.
From today, the first chapter begins and reviews of the group, one of the most important, after affecting essential areas such as justice, judiciary, functioning of democratic institutions, public procurement or public administration reform. In this group, as is also called ʹbazazas / or ʹememorators, it includes public procurement, statistics, and financial control.
This chapter group opens first and closes at the end of the integration process. Progress in this group will determine the overall pace of negotiations. Meanwhile, today also marks the holding of the second EU-Albanian Intergovernmental Conference.
Albania applied for EU membership in April 2009 and was granted EU candidate status in June 2014. The EU held its first intergovernmental conference with Albania in July 2022.
