The director of the American Economic Ode in Kosovo (OEAK), Arian Zeka, said the measures imposed by the European Union (BE), in addition to damaging Kosovo from monetary terms, are damaging the country even on its path to membership in international organisations.
He has said the Government of Kosovo must work on performing its pledges for these measures to be scrapped.
Zeka has suggested that EU measures are affecting the country's reputation in view that Kosovo is a new country that is seeking recognition from other countries and membership in international organisations, and those measures according to him are causing consequences to the country in this regard.
Beyond the monetary aspect, beyond the losses Kosovo does not benefit EU assistance, whether direct monetary assistance or even what is offered in technical form, the negative impact of these measures is on the country's image, its reputation. A new state, which is seeking new recognitions even from individual states around the world, is also trying to ensure membership in other international organisations, inevitable that it is facing the moment when someone realises that Kosovo is undergoing measures coming from the EU”, Zeka said.
“People are not doing a detailed analysis they will put the blame, or chief responsibility, on the country's institutions even on the state of Kosovo in this respect. I'm saying once more than losing monetary benefits, what runs the most on Kosovo is on the image of the country”, Zeka has said.
The OECAK director has said that the Kosovo government is not carrying out its pledges on which it is charged, that is why these measures are not being taken according to him.
“What if the EU institutions in this case charge the Kosovo government with responsibility for the lack of constructiveity in the dialogue and the failure to implement some of the commitments which the state of Kosovo has taken into dialogue with Serbia mediated by the EU then the inevitable answer should be sought there. So if not to make those pledges which the state of Kosovo has taken”, he has said.
Zeka has also criticised the government for failing to implement some of the agreements involving economic development that were reached in 2017-2019 by past governments.
Let's be honest we often say within the American Ode that some of the decisions that have to do with economic development which were taken by governments in the past, in 2017, 2018, 2019 from now, are not implemented. So we're also talking about vows that we make to ourselves and which other governments choose not to take into account. The same is being repeated in relation to international partners”, it is over. /EO
