Three American soldiers were killed and dozens more injured after a drone hit a military post in Jordan, known as Tower 22.
US President Joe Biden, for this attack, blamed the militant groups backed by Iran. Iranian officials named it the groundless “” US claims, denying involvement in the attack.
Location
Tower 22 is located at an important strategic location in Jordan. This tower is located at the northeast end of Jordan, on its border with Syria and Iraq.
Purpose
There's little public information on this base. But that includes logistical support and 350 troops of the American Army and Air Force are deployed.
Tower 22 is near the Al Tanf garrison, located along the Syrian border. A small number of American troops are in it. Tanfi has been key to the fight against the militant group, the Islamic State, and has taken a role as part of a United States strategy to curb Iran's military deployment to eastern Syria.
Tower 22 is near US troops in Tanf that it can help support them, and at the same time repel militants in this area, supported by Iran, and enable American troops to fight against the remaining IS militants in the region.
The Jordan Army is one of the most military-financed armies Washington provides for foreign armies.
Jordan's kingdom has hundreds of American trainers and is one of the few regional allies who conduct extensive military exercises with American troops throughout the year.
Since the start of the conflict in Syria in 2011, Washington has spent hundreds of millions of dollars helping Amane build a monitoring system known as the Border Security Programme. The programme aims to contain the infiltrate of militants from Syria and Iraq.
Many Unknown
It's unclear what kind of weapons are kept on this base, what air defense systems were used and what went wrong during the attack on American troops. /rel/
