Swiss media on liberalisation: Kosovars have booked tickets to visit families in Switzerland

“Since Monday, Kosovars no longer need visas to travel to the Schengen area. This visa end had been promised for years by European leaders. And, Kosovo's new society looked forward to”, said in the script published Monday.

In addition to enjoying changing weathers, it reportedly mattered to Kosovars “the liberation” of society.

“1.8 million Kosovars were looking forward to January 1st, 2024. The passage in the new year is synonymous with a real liberation for this new society and many eurofiles: since this Monday citizens of this small Balkan country no longer need visas. to travel to their continent”.

In addition, the injustice confronting Kosovo's citizens in this regard is also known.

Kosovo was the only country in the region that had not received this visa liberalisation, and the situation had created a sense of injustice, especially among young people feeling somewhat isolated in a country 4 times smaller than Switzerland. So far, only Albania, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Turkey had visa-free access. However, Kosovo had long met the administrative requirements imposed by Brussels: the move was recommended in 2016 by the European Parliament. But political impasses have postponed this opening, especially because of the conflict with Serbia”.

“Today, the long and costly process of obtaining visas is one thing of the past: Kosovars can move freely within Europe, and many already have booked their tickets to visit their family in Switzerland”, writes RTS. / Albinfo
