The United States undertook another attack against rebels Houthi in Yemen early Saturday after officials said they were not satisfied with the damage caused during the preliminary shocks Thursday.

The U.S. Central Command said Saturday's attack was carried out by the USS Carney warship, from which remoteised Tomahawk-type missiles were launched with the objective of destroying a radar centre, which he said posed a constant threat to shipping.

Days ago, the armies of the United States and Great Britain launched several air strikes against the positions of Houthi movement in Yemen following the ongoing attacks of rebels who have stopped shipping and damaged transat the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Militants Houth launched a ballistic rocket against ships early Friday, US military officials confirmed, though it did not hit any shipping vehicles.

American and British officials voiced optimism Friday that the initial attacks late Thursday, which are now being described as two waves of attacks, were successful.

An American defence official told Voice of America on Friday that the initial assessment shows that the first wave of attacks late Thursday degraded the ability of the Houth movement to launch further attacks.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he still continued a more comprehensive assessment of the attacks. Earlier, senior American officials said that the attacks had significantly damaged the rebel's abilities.

We become very confident about the targets that hit our” ammunition, General Douglas Sims told the media on Friday. “We still do not know the final assessment of the damage caused”.

The United States Central Command said late Thursday that fighter aircraft, ships and US submarines hit more than 60 targets in 16 areas in control by the Houthi movement, including command and control nodes, ammunition depots, aircraft launch systems and production facilities.

General Sims said Friday that the US and Britain launched a second wave of attacks against 12 other areas about 30 to an hour after the initial attacks.

In November the White House announced that it was considering the possibility of redefining the rebel group Houthi as a terrorist organisation, while they began striking civilian ships. The Biden administration officially removed this group from the list of “foreign terrorist organisations” or “terrorists designated globally” in 2021, undoing a move by President Donald Trump.

Lieutenant General Douglas Sims said the new US attacks were generally carried out in areas with small populations, and that the number of those killed according to him would not be high. He said the attacks hit the group's weapons, radar and location, including remote mountain areas. / VOA/
