NATO does not see any close military threat from Russia to any members of the alliance, the general secretary of the most powerful military alliance in the world said.
Jens Stoltenberg said he will continue preventing the largest exercise in decades to begin this week, reports Skynews.
“We do all of this to ensure that we have forces in the country to remove any dilemma at Moscow about our readiness to protect every centimeter of NATO territory and as long as we do this, there will be no attacks on NATO territory”, Norwegian said.
This comes after NATO's top military official, Admiral Rob Bauer, warned last week of a possible conflict with Russia.
We need to understand that we are not at peace”, he said, and added that “and that's why we [NATO forces] are preparing for a conflict with Russia”.
Otherwise, NATO will begin its largest military exercise since the end of the Cold War, Steadfast Defender 24, which includes 90 thousand troops from 31 members of the military alliance, as well as Sweden.
