From headquarters in Brussels, confirmation was repeated that without progress in the normalisation process, there is progress in the integration process.
The European Union was very clear in many cases, but also in legal documents that the road to Kosovo and Serbia to the EU passes through dialogue facilitated by the EU. In other words, no progress in the dialogue means no progress in the EU membership process”, said European Union spokesman Peter Stano.
Kosovo's prime minister earlier this week had proposed that the process of integration for Kosovo be separated from the process of normalising relations with Serbia.
But EU officials warn that this proposal is unlikely to be experienced because the essence of the enlargement process is precisely resolving open issues with neighbours.
The European Union continues to stand behind the principle that it will not accept into the family any state that has open bilateral issues, as with neighbours, as well as any EU member state.
