Saarbrukken Airport in western Germany was closed, while airports in Dusseldorf and Koln have also been affected by delays and bird failure.
The national train operator, Deutsche Bahn, has cancelled several long-distance trips and has announced that the maximum speed of its rapid trains will be limited to 200 km per hour due to extreme weather.
Rainfalls throughout western and southern Germany have also caused road freezes, resulting in many road accidents Wednesday morning.
