“will not comment on specific shipments of weapons, but in general I would say I think we should make an additional effort to integrate all Balkan countries into Euro-Atlantic structures”, so the former secretary general said NATO Anders Fogh Rasmussen for Voice of America.
He has made it a statement questioned about Kosovo's demand for the purchase of 246 type missiles “Javelin” from the US, and whether this is a signal to Belgrade.
“in particular, the European Union has the obligation to try to integrate Serbia, as well as Kosovo, into the European Union. In the past, we have seen that this is the basis for more lasting peace and stability on the European continent”, Rasmussen told the Voice of America.
America's decision to supply Kosovo with military weapons prompted reactions, but international and local criticism as well.
Last week, after the US State Department confirmed that Kosovo has applied for the purchase of missiles “Javelin” worth $75 million, politicians in Kosovo are involved in a public debate on social networks, making deprivedrial of who is most concerned about buying these anti-tank missiles.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Ejup Macedonia has said that apart from the United States, Kosva is discussing with other states on arms purchase.
“We are discussing with other states besides the US for arms purchase”, Macedonia said.
Even with the United States, we made other purchases before the publication of Yavelin”, Macedonia said.
To purchase the “Javelin”, which is expected to receive the green light from the US Congress, Macedonia has expressed optimism that it will soon be approved.
