Russia's President Vladimir Putin has shared the Friendship Order for the former director of the Serbian Security and Information Agency (BIA), Aleksandar Vulin.
The news was made known by the Movement of Socialists, which was founded by Vulin.
According to the announcement, Volin was honoured “for the great contribution made to the development and improvement of co-operation between BIA and Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service. [ Footnote] SVR] in the area of ensuring state security and defence of the national interests of Serbia and Russia”.
The Socialist Movement announced that Putin's envoy, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryskin, gave the order to Voulin at the headquarters of this service in Moscow.
Naryskin, according to the announcement, said Vulin deserves this award because of his continued efforts aimed at conducting Russian-Serbian reports and co-operation in the intelligence services of Russia and Serbia.
Volin has continued to maintain direct contact with Russian officials even after the launch of Ukraine's Russian invasion in February 2022.
Just two days ago, Volin was also honoured by the director of the Russian Federal Security Service, Army General Alexander Bortnikov.
Bortinykov shared the order for higher professionalism and contribution to co-operation between the Serbian and Russian services. He accepted that command at the headquarters of this Russian service in Moscow on January 28th.
Volin has long been a partner of Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's coalition, until late in BIA's helm.
In July 2023, the United States placed it on the list of sanctions under suspicion of involvement in corruption and drug trafficking, as well as about Russia.
On November 3rd 2023, Volin resigned from BIA leadership, arguing that he had no right to “sacrifice Serbia” while remaining in the post.
In the past, he has held several political posts, from the post of chief of the Office for Kosovo to the leadership of defence dictatorships and home affairs, and eventually served as the chief officer.
