Along with former Prime Minister Arben Vitita's wife, for a position of non-professional member of the Prosecutor's Council, the name of Dardan Vunici, associate professor at the Faculty of Jury, “Uksin Hoti” in Prizren has been recommended from the university ranks.
The two recommendations -- by Abdhili-Pozhari and Vucinqi -- have been forwarded to the Kosovo Parliament Commission for Legislation this week.
The recommended names are expected to be considered next week at the parliamentary commission meeting, before potentially being sent to the assembly for voting.
A non-prosecutor member of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council is appointed by law faculties.
The appointment process of a new non-professional member to the KKP comes about a month after Kosovo's Assembly dismissed Agron Beka, a law professor exercising this position in the Council.
Beka was dismissed on December 15th last year following Parliamentary Commission's recommendation for the start-up of the dismissal of member Agron Beka, led by Vetvendosje Movement MP Adnan Rrustemi.
Opposition parties, P DK, LDK and AAK did not participate in the vote. Major MPs voted in favour of Beka's dismissal.
The reason for Beka's dismissal was that he has committed ethical violations and that his further stay in the KKP “is the bad image for the Kosovo Assembly”.
The dismissal of Beka and recommendation for a KPK member position of Dzevdet Pozhar's wife, former adviser to Minister Arben Vitita, is the first full-term change in the composition of the Prosecutorial Council, which has 11 members.
An earlier goal of the current power of the Vetevendosje Movement to change the composition of the Prosecutorial Council through the new Law on the KKP has failed.
The Constitutional Court has announced last year the KPK Law, which envisioned changes especially in the composition and selection of council members.
