Osman at a meeting with Secretary Cameron: Kosovo membership in NATO, necessary step for peace, stability

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has hosted the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary of State, Lord David Cameron today.

The meeting discussed excellent Kosovo-United Kingdom reports, commitment to deepening interstate co-operation, strengthening Kosovo's international position, as well as the security situation in the region and beyond.

Osmani thanked Secretary Cameron for the firm support of the United Kingdom over the years, including diplomatic support in Kosovo's integration process in international institutions.

It reaffirmed the importance of Kosovo's membership in NATO, starting with involvement in the Partnership for Peace as a necessary step to ensure lasting peace and security in the region and beyond.

Similarly, President Osmani highlighted the importance of membership in the Council of Europe for empowering and advancing greater human rights.

The meeting also discussed the security situation in the region and wider, with President Osmani informing Secretary Cameron of Serbia's continued destabilising efforts, including the act of aggression and terrorist act against the Republic of Kosovo on 24 September.

The president thanked Secretary Cameron for adding British troops under KFOR, noting the importance of co-operation for border security with Serbia.

In that direction, Osmani also spoke of terrorist groups supported by Belgrade, which continue to create fears and orientation within the Serb community.

Despite that, President Osmani stressed that Kosovo is an example in the region in terms of the rights of the non-US community, while reaffirming Kosovo's full commitment to empowering every citizen, indiscriminately.
