Deputy Prime Minister for Minority and Human Rights Issues Emilia Rexhepi has voiced pro-organised new elections in the four northern municipalities, while saying she remains behind her stance against an Association of Serb majority municipalities with executive competence.

I consider that in the north of our country we must organise local elections and the majority Serb population participate and decide for their lives and who will vote. We as governments are not forced there to decide our people for mayors, but we had to respect the legal arrangement so that the institutions could function. Now let's see how the petition process of leaving the mayors goes. At the moment the whole process is at the CEC, but we have to offer Serbs there the opportunity to decide who will vote”, Rexhepi stressed in an interview for the “warehouse. Info Plus” in RTK.

Speaking of establishing the Association of Serb majority municipalities, she has said that as governments are working not to allow the creation of a state within the state. Rexhepi says that although American and European partners lend competition that this will not happen, the draft submitted by the European side provides a solid basis for establishing a state within the state.

“Now as we are actually released on the road to the EU, where our citizens can move freely, the process of association is less important. I represent the the thesis that we cannot create state within the state, given the experience in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where Republika Srpska is still blocking the process towards the EU, and why do this in our country. Likewise, granting privileges only to one people to create the Association of an ethnic nature I think is wrong”, the deputy prime minister has added.

She has said this does not mean that she opposes the integration of Serbs, as they too have the right to live in Kosovo and enjoy all rights like everyone else, but according to her, it does not give them the right to violate other people or give them the right to share part of the country's territory.

If you have a huge executive power and these authorizations are extraordinary during your action, you can in time organise a referendum and separate from that state. I consider it best that now as a prevention to be attentive, and I think what Prime Minister Kurti is doing is in the interest of all Kosovo citizens, it is neither against Serbs nor against Albanians. We, above all, should think first as Kosovar, and then split up according to the ethnic groups that we meet”, Rexhepi has underlined.

It has also spoken of the signing of the memorandum of co-operation between Kosovo and the ICO international organisation with headquarters in London, aimed at government support to communities in many areas.

Rexhepi said that in the years 2024-2030, about 300m euros are planned for communities not majority.

“has been a very demanding project, where we have worked more than a year and a half with the international organisation ICO. We plan to support non-US communities from Leposaviqi to Dragash. I thank Prime Minister Kurti, who supported me on this project, which will create investment opportunities from 2024 to 2030. This project aims to stabilise the non-US communities and their economic recovery in the country they live in. All communities -- Serbs, Bosniaks, Turks, Gorani, Roma, Ashkali, Roma, Egyptians” -- are involved in this project, Rexhepi has said.

Under it, the goal of this project is to promote economic development and open up new jobs, where citizens of non-communal communities will be employed and thus stop the citizens' migration process and ensure the existence of their families.
