Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu has said it is the disaster we are in 2024 and Kosovo still has no Civil Code, but according to him it will proceed within this year.
Unfortunately, only one article, which is Article 148 of the Civil Code draft and has not been addressed by new institutes, which are women's rights, citizens in general”, Haxhiu said.
She said no law in the MD is done without the involvement of other institutions, civil society, international partners and experts.
The Civil Code will be prosecuted within this year. Kosovo as a country claiming to membership in the Council of Europe, we dare not allow ourselves to have a document advancing human rights, because it directly relates to human rights”, she has said.
Haxhiu added that they have been trying to get the support of MPs, though he said they all have the responsibility to give the vote for this document, but stressed that they are not sure they will get 61 votes.
For my better conviction, it is to make sure that we have 61 votes participating in the vote and on the other hand to prosecute it because the renewed failure in the Kosovo Assembly would be fatal for Kosovo, especially in the interior and in our journey to mechanisms, as is the Council of Europe”, she said.
On the other hand, Gzim Shala from the Kosovo Institute for Justice (IKD) said that until now the Civil Code issue would have to be a forgotten issue, since, according to him, a minister or justice minister would have to leave an inheritance and that he hopes this of this ministry should be the Civil Code.
After all these numbers, all this importance that the Civil Code has, because it's not just one article, there are hundreds/ thousand cases that are handled in Civil Code”, he said.
While Viona Bunjaku, a researcher in the FOL Movement, said the Civil Code is almost forgotten topic and hopes this year will be adopted. /Betimy for Justice
