In the case of the 61st anniversary of the EU Treaty and 5th anniversary of the Aacten Treaty, German and French embassies in Kosovo organised a discussion on reconciliation in Mitrovica today.
Participants discussed different perceptions of reconciliation at the individual level and the community, their impact on the processes of reconciliation in Kosovo, as well as finding common ground in determining steps that must be taken in order to revive the process of building interethnic peace.
German Ambassador Jorn Rohde and French Ambassador Olivier Guerot have shared experiences of how reconciliation became part of their biographies, though of a different nature, stressing that the German-French reconciliation process can still offer inspiration to local communities in efforts to overcome the grave past.
Despite the fact that it is very challenging to find the common language to determine what reconciliation includes different communities in Kosovo's post-war environment, participants concluded that reconciliation processes should be cut off from the overwhelming influence of nationalist nationalists and toxic rhetoric.
It is of great importance that basic communities address cross-sectorial issues related to reconciliation in a way that leads to irreversible and concrete progress for all, supported by the local, national and international interest parties.
Germany and France will actively continue to support real efforts at reconciliation, a joint statement issued by the German Embassy and France's in Kosovo said.
