Very few machines and workers were seen working on what is known as the Pristina-Gjlan” “, on January 17th. Construction started six years ago, but field work seems to be going very slowly. The length of this highway is 226 miles [22.6 km] and is projected to be completed within 30 months or late 2020.
Environmental Ministry officials, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure said various problems have been presented, starting with soil slides, reshaping contracts and increasing expropriations.
“The problems that have emerged along the way have influenced the project not to be finalised in 2023, as promised. However, we remain optimistic that the highway to Bresalz in Gjilan will be finalised during this year”, MMPHI told REL.
At the recent Kosovo Government meeting for 2023, a decision has been made to expropriate some of the additional parcels in order to complete the project as soon as possible.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, in July 2023, had inspected his business on this highway. He had promised that <x0 operations would be completed by 2023, after 70 percent of the work” was completed.
In 2018, it has been said that this highway, Kosovo's budget, will cost 87m euros. But, in this year's budgetary division Law, it is said that the total value of this highway is around 129m euros.
This highway is expected to connect Kosovo with southern Serbia, with the Presevo Valley, respectively.
Establishing the integrated road transport system enables better and faster ties between domestic and foreign regions, the Kosovo Government Programme 2021-2025 says.
