The year 2024 is not starting as well as the electromagnetic sector.

This, as local production is not progressing properly and the country is therefore forced to import over 1m euros of energy per day to cover consumption.

The whole situation has deteriorated following KEK's warning to halt a bloc that produces 250 megawatts per hour of electricity, therefore unit B1.

As the portal Fzaplus reports, this unit will be out for the next 48 hours, meaning it will cost Kosovo at least 2m euros in energy from abroad. The ban on this block is taking place after several months of entry, after quite long repairs.

According to KESCO, in time the dot is expected to import nearly half of the energy that will be consumed.

We have access to nearly 600 megawatts per hour of electricity. So at 11 p.m. on Thursday, it's scheduled to import 598 megavats of electricity. We are importing a large amount only for citizens to be supplied without interruption with electricity”, said Margarita Rashit, spokeswoman for KESCO.

According to her, the price, along with her transportation, amounts to over 100 euros per megawatt, while the import contracted for Thursday alone has reached 1.1m euros.

After halting the B1 local production unit is below 600 MWh, while consumption in its peak is expected to reach as many as 1200 MWh.

Outside all this amount is the north of the country supplied by the Elektrosever company, which has taken office and started with field operations on January 1st of this year. The northern part of the country consumes about 5 percent of its total electricity, while Kosovo citizens on that side will pay their bills for the first post-war term at the end of the month.

By 2017 that money has been paid by Kosovo's budget, while the supply has made KO STT, public company owned by the Kosovo government.
