China: 13 Dead to Fire in a School Board · Global Voices

Thirteen people have died as a result of fire at a school dorm in the Chinese province of Henan, the Xinhua news agency said.

Fire at Yingcai School was reported Friday evening.

According to the agency, 13 people are dead, and one person is injured, and is receiving hospital treatment.

Xinhua did not specify whether the dead are children.

However, a report by the daily Hebai is said to have confirmed that all victims are third grade students -- nine or ten years old.

Local authorities are said to be investigating the cause of the fire, and at least one person has been detained.
