The United States' decision to sell Kosovo anti-tank missiles “Javelin” represents a new level of escalation of the situation, said Petr Bystron, chairman of the Parliamentary Alternative Group's Foreign Policy Commission for Germany ( AfD) in Bundestag, stressing that Ukraine was the best example of how “arms really work for peace”.
I honestly wonder why Americans are supplying such heavy weapons to an entity like Kosovo. It is a region mired in crisis, violating international law and the integrity of the former Yugoslavia. I consider this a further step towards escalation”, Bystron told Kosovo Online in response to the question of whether the US decision, as presented, contributes to stability.
In response to the claim that Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to destabilise the Western Balkans, Bystron ironically stressed that “Putin is so bad and destabilises the Balkans by convincing Americans to supply weapons, and that the Russian president is behind all”.
Asked why Germany has kept silent with regard to Kosovo's arming, he has responded that this reflects disregard for international agreements.
“Already, Kosovo Police are equipped to walk with long arms. This is already a paramilitary formation. What has been promised in the agreement is not respected, that they are only security and police forces, rather, there is a further step into the” weapons, Bystron criticised.
He also adds that unfortunately, German opinion is not informed of the Serb stance in Kosovo because major media report unilaterally and do not focus on the issue.
The “is similar to the situation in eastern Ukraine regions. For many years, there were no reports of the mistreatment of the local Russian minority, not even that the Ukrainian army was shooting at them, and there were thousands of dead. All this was without media attention, the same is happening to Kosovo Serbs, the media remain silent about the conflict, and therefore German opinion does not know how Serbs live in Kosovo. Like the protests in Germany now, whose government wants to silence”, Bystron stressed.
Asked why Germany was Kosovo's biggest supporter in Europe, Bystron said this question should be addressed to the German government because he sees no benefit for official Berlin.
He warned a conference on the topic of disrespecting international law and applying double standards to politics.
“Double standards have become unattended and completely transparent in the case of Ukraine, it can be seen how certain actions are treated quite differently. These are interesting questions of our time”, Bystron said.
