Great Britain is ready to formally recognise a Palestinian state, Foreign Secretary David Cameron has indicated on Tuesday.
Cameron stressed that Palestinians should be given a political horizon to promote the achievement of peace in the Middle East.
Great Britain is responsible to present what a Palestinian state would look like, according to him.
Palestinian people must appear “irreversible progress” towards a solution of two states, he added.
Until that happens, we will consider joining allies the recognition of a Palestinian state, including in the United Nations”, said the Council of Conservative for the Middle East.
This could be one of the things that help make this process irreversible”, he said.
He called on Israel to allow more international aid in the Gaza Strip and named <x0-> funny” the return of British vital aid and other aid to the border.
Cameron stressed that the past 30 years have been history of failure for Israel because it has failed to provide security for its citizens.
Only by acknowledging this failure, he added, will there be peace and progress.
Britain has long supported a two-state solution where the Israelites and Palestinians can live side-by-side in divided countries.
But, Cameron suggested Britain could offer formal and diplomatic recognition to a Palestinian state, not as part of a final peace agreement, but earlier, during the talks.
At the same time, there should be a new Palestinian authority with good and technocratic “s which are able to lead Gaza, he underlined.
Regarding efforts to end Israel's Gaza war, Cameron said fighting is necessary now and that there is <x0 hopeful “for the ongoing talks.
“Now we are seeing the opening of a road where we can truly write progress, not just to end the conflict, but progress in finding a political solution, which can mean peace for years, not for months”, he said.
The Israeli war in the Gaza Strip has destroyed most of the small territory and killed over 26,000 Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
This war was sparked by a wave of attacks by Hamas fighters in Israel on October 7th, where about 1,300 people were killed and over 250 others were kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. / REL
