“We believe that in Serbia there are elements operating directly in Russia's interest, threatening the region's stability and democratic capacities. Serbia is an independent, sovereign state. The United Kingdom has co-operated with Serbia for a long-standing set of common priorities and will continue to do so”, the embassy said, commenting on British diplomatic head David Cameron's statement on the British Parliament's Foreign Policy Committee.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said yesterday he was disappointed by Cameron's statement and added that “Serbia is not a representative of Russia, America, Britain, Germany or anyone else, but an independent country”.
From the embassy of Great Britain, said today that Cameron “shows elements within Serbia that they believe they work directly in Russia's interest rather than Serbia's own state”.
Serbia is an independent sovereign state and we welcome the Serbian government's clear position in the direction of war opposition in Ukraine. We will continue to encourage Serbia to implement sanctions against Russia. We may not fully agree, but we welcome regular dialogue with Serbia's Government on these questions”, the Embassy emphasises.
