The US forces have carried out the fifth air strikes in Yemen against the rebel Huthi movement, supported by Iran.
U.S. President Joe Biden acknowledged that American and British bombings have not yet halted the attacks of rebels on ships on the Red Sea that have prevented global transportation.
The last attacks carried out on January 18th destroyed two rockets against the Huth ships that “targeted the Red Sea south and were about to jump”, the American Central Command said through an X post known earlier as Twitter.
The Pentagon said the attacks were carried out by an American Navy aircraft type F/A-18.
Biden said the US will continue the attacks, even though they have not so far prevented the Huths from continuing to prevent commercial and military ships.
When you say if they [attacks] are functioning, if the Hhuts stop them, no. But the attacks will continue”, Biden told reporters on leaving the White House for North Carolina.
Hours after this statement by Beden, Hüth general Yahya Saree said through a statement that the rebel movement has carried out another missile attack against a US-owned Chem Ranger ship. According to Saree, the attack took place in the Gulf of Aden, in the waters south of Yemen.
U.S. Central Command said the attack had no impact on the ship.
“The crew saw that the missiles fell into the waters near the ship”, the American Command said, adding that it was not reported to hurt or damage and that the ship continued its voyage.
The Huth attacks on the Red Sea have forced the US and its international partners to take steps to protect ships through a joint operation, preventing missiles or fears targeting ships.
The US and Britain have also carried out attacks on countries where rebels have missiles, radar and air defence systems in order to destroy their ability to attack.
For months, the Huths have said that they are attacking ships at the Red Sea that are related to Israel or that sail toward Israelite ports. They have said the attacks are intended to stop Israel's offensive in Gaza.
The war between Israel and Hamas ʹ the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisations by the US and the European Union began after Hamas attacked the south of Israel on October 7th. But attacks on ships at the Red Sea have increased and fears of expanding conflict in the region have increased. / REL
