For several days, Albania's Orthodox Church -- currently run by Greek national Anastas Yanulatos -- has been involved in fierce controversy with the Archon of Ecumenical Patriarchate, Ilias Damianakis.
Damianakis has published an article in the Greek language accusing the Albanian Church of receiving money from <x0-cellarka foreign <x0-tolarka”.
“While the efforts of international oligarchs with personal interests have contributed to the reconstruction or restoration of over 250 churches (in Albania), their focus seems to tilt more towards these efforts than the strict respect of Orthodox canononic principles”, Damianakis writes among other things.
While in her response the Church of Albania stresses that, as the context showed, the term <x0 humanologic international” implies the Russians.
This is a malicious and flagrant lie”, said the Albanian Orthodox Church's response.
Finally, the Albanian Church stresses that the accusations of this kind are a complete twist of truth with the aim of supporting the lie that the Albanian Church “finds itself in the pipe of Russian propaganda”.
We remember that the Church of Albania is among the churches that have not recognised the Autocellin of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church that has given it Ecumenical Patriarchate.
The Albanian Church also continues to demand that the Pan-Orthodox Council meet, in line with the stance held by the Russian Church. At the same time, in any case, the Albanian Church has voiced its opposition to the Ecumenical Patriarchate's decision (about giving the Ukrainian Orthodox Church autocephalia).
