Rama in KiE: Kosovo's George Washington is being tried by Vladimir Putin report

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Iceland, where he is participating in the KiE summit. This two-day summit has combined European leaders with the goal of putting Russia ahead of its responsibility for the war in Ukraine. In his speech, Rama cited charges brought against Hashim Thaci and the Liberation Army [...]

In his address, Rama cited the charges brought against Hashim Thaci and the Kosovo Liberation Army in the 2011 report, which according to the head of government had its start on this very council.

“Today at the Council of Europe summit, I cannot help but remember that injustice against Kosovo's liberation war and its leader Hashim Thaci began precisely in the Council of Europe under the malicious influence of the former member of this Council, the Russian Federation.

As Joe Biden referred to, Kosovo Washington is already tried by a court established and founded by the democratic world, but based on a 2011 report by the Council of Europe. Which in a diabolically was sponsored by representatives of Vladimir Putin at the Council of Europe assembly. Terrifyingly groundless charges of human organ trafficking were then raised as the starting point of a criminal campaign to tarnish Albania and Kosovo. ”

Rama stressed that the Assembly of the Council of Europe should withdraw that shameful report back.

And when I heard the Kremlin propaganda talk about trafficking human organs I thought I saw President Zelenskiy 10 years later tried by a court of the same absurd charges. Feeling for this brutally non-conventional opening that you could seem to be breaking up that piano where you miraculously played Hail Mary and our hosts. But it is extremely discouraging to know that the situation involving Kosovo's president and the Liberation Army originated within the Council of Europe. I would feel guilty about keeping quiet or not talking about the following. The KiE Assembly has a moral obligation to correct any mistakes, and in this case, it must reverse the report that falsely labelled Albania as the basis of organ trafficking.

To refuse to face the truth today would be worse than to make such a serious mistake 12 years ago, when many voted with their eyes closed that shameful report. Of course the situation has changed, Russia is no longer a member of this Council, even though the number of Russians working for the Council of Europe is quite impressive. Albania has had no illusions of the nature of the Moscow regime, and our relationship with Moscow has been non-existing.

Don't ask me to explain why it would take longer than it took our trip to Iceland. Since the beginning of the war, Vladimir Putin's popularity has fluctuated in Albania from 0.7 % to 1.2%. Albania is small enough to influence the fates of such a decisive war for the future of Europe and the world, but every little thing we've done for Ukraine we've done with the deepest gratitude to Ukrainian resistance. That's why the most beautiful thing we Albanians will get from this summit, so well organised by our Icelandic hosts.

Thank Katrine, thank Iceland for what you've done so firmly and courageously by shaking the status quo and finally begging Kosovo in this large community, so it's convincing everyone here so eloquently expressed by some colleagues. It is not President Zelensky who should thank us, but we who should thank Ukraine for what he is doing for all of us and our beloved Europe. Thank you all, and I will be very pleased to sign the damage registration agreement before leaving this gracious country. God bless Europe and God save Ukraine”
