Mustafa: Association is no longer a solution, afraid of growing markets from Serbia

Former Prime Minister Isa Mustafa estimates recent developments in the north are exacerbating the problem between Kosovo and Serbia. Mustafa adds that if this Government potentially withdraws, that future will have much harder on the issue.

There's an opportunity for the Government to say I'm not agreeing right now, and I'm pulling out, we're going to the elections, and the government that comes back has to start where this government left it. And now the level on which the problem has been left is far more serious than what it used to be. Because we now have a situation with a full institutional vacuum in the north of the country, with a citizen disobedience of Serbs to Kosovo institutions even in such a situation, it is a problem how to find the solution. Those solutions that have been before as a solution, I don't consider them to be solutions that today can be made, that as the situation gets exacerbated in the north, so many of the Serb community's demands are increased there, but also Serbia's to Kosovo, putting pressure on the international community, even asking that the internationals agree with it”, Mustafa said.

Mustafa says that association is no longer a solution but fears increasing shopping requirements from the Serbian community and internationals.

I don't even see Association as any solution, that association that was discussed in 2013 and 2015. The solution then has been to become a certain organisation, co-ordination of Serb majority municipalities among themselves so that it does not have powers of power, neither local nor central, but what is happening now is a problem of how it will end up with such a solution and I fear growing markets, increasing demand, because requirements do not only increase Serbs now, but the international community that those that were made in Brussels and Ohrid, is not an agreement for resolving Kosovo's problems as a sovereign state, but it is only agreement with the peace processes that endanger the peace and security that took place in the conflict that happened in Ukraine, Mustafa Intafouku, in Ukraine.

The former LDK leader says the agreement with Serbia is only to keep a temporary calm, which, according to him, has been jeopardised by the Kosovo government. Mustafa says Kosovo faces agreement has duties, while Serbia only pledges.

The “is not fully the solution, it is just a question of a status quo, a temporary calm which the international community has been interested in because the Government of Kosovo is taking actions that are endangering this calm, or this peace and security, because even the agreement if seen, there is nothing new. There are some barren, half-definition statements. We have parts that speak of a certain Serbian pledge that will not prevent Kosovo's membership in international organisations, but Vucinqi was declared and said that I do not implement. We have Kosovo's commitment to the Association, according to 2013 and 2015, dot 10 and make self-advancing Serbs and secure the special status of the Serbian Orthodox Church. So we have homework, Serbia has only pledges, for that and it's starting with nothing. We have a very strange assumption that says neither side is supposed to take office representing the other side. The assumption is something entirely different and is not commitment because instead of assumption it is said that neither Serbia comes out with speech in the name of Kosovo nor the opposite”, he added.
