Generosity, support for what is needed, along with hospitality, has been historically the traditions of Albanians, constantly emphasized in textbooks, or in stories and books of various authors.
But such traditions seem to belong only to history. The latest “allup” poll conducted in operation in the 2023 Happiness IndexIt shows that Albania ranks among the last in Europe as far as generosity and social support indicators are concerned.
In contrast, it is the situation for Kosovo citizens, who continue to preserve and apply these traditions, ranking among the first in the world in terms of generosity.
Social support is an indication that according to the report's methodology is linked to having someone you can count on in times of trouble.
The question to the respondents is: “If you've been in trouble, do you have relatives or friends that you can rely on to help you whenever you need it, right? ”
Albania at this index ranks last in Europe and 29th from the bottom of the world, and has a difference from other European states. The Albanian social support is equal to that of countries such as Kongo, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Honduras, etc.
In the region, behind Albania, the lowest social support exists in northern Macedonia.
Kosovo ranks among the 40 countries in the world that support each other, while there is no record of Serbia-Montenegro.
The world's highest social support states are New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Iceland.
Even in the other indicator of generosity, Albania ranks among the last in Europe.
To measure the generosity indicator, respondents are asked: Have you donated money for a charity last month?
According to the report, this is a clear indication of a sense of community positive commitment and a key way for people to connect with each other. Research shows that in all cultures, from early childhood, people are attracted to the behavior that other people benefit from.
Albania is one of Europe's least generous countries, but holds the record (negative), along with Bulgaria, Romania, Portugal. Kosovo citizens again rank much better than we do, among the 25 most generous states in the world.
Low support expected by friends and relatives, along with low per capita income, and high perception of corruption are some of the factors that rank Albania among the unhappy states of Europe.
In the recent report of Joy, published by the United Nations Organization, Albania has lost a position, looking Sorted to 91st out of 146 countries.
Of the European countries, Albania leaves behind northern Macedonia (92), Turkey (102) and Georgia (106).
Although Kosovo's per capita income is lower than Albania's, Kosovo citizens still rank much better than Albania in the happiness index, as they score points from high support, which they have for each other.
Kosovo was ranked 34th in the world and the happiest in the region. After that is Serbia at 45th. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro ranked 63rd and 71st, respectively.
