“We have fourfold KFOR's presence in northern Kosovo and have tripled the number of patrols, including along the administrative line. In general, the security situation is now calmer, but it remains fragile. These are careful steps to ensure that KFOR's mission continues to fulfil the UN mandate based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 to provide a safe and secure environment for all communities living in Kosovo, and freedom of movement; at any time and impartially”, he said.
Ulutash said KFOR will stay as long as necessary, in line with the UN mandate.
He has been asked whether the year 2023 has been the hardest year for KFOR.
KFOR is currently the longest and largest NATO-led mission. Kfor has been present in Kosovo for more than 20 years. Each year there have been challenges, and in this direction, 2023 was no different, given the tensions at the beginning of this year. KFOR has always witnessed its ability to handle any challenge and to continue implementing its UN mandate, fully and impartially. That's the mentality we'll keep working on. ”
He said dialogue is the only way towards lasting peace and stability.
“KFOR continues to create a security framework that is necessary for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia to progress with EU mediation, which is the only way towards lasting peace and stability in the best of all regional communities and stability”, Ulitas said.
