7 War Crimes Suspects Arrested in Srebrenica

The suspects were arrested by the state Agency for Investigation and Protection (SIPA) in the vicinity of Zvornik, this agency said without pointing to the date of their capture.
SIPA stressed that those arrested would be handed over to Bosnia and Herzegovina's Prosecutor's Office, following additional investigations.
The Prosecutor's Office confirmed to Radio Free Europe that among the suspects there are commanders of the former Zvornik Brigade.
Bosnian Serb troops killed more than 8,300 mainly Bosniak men and boys inside and around Srebrenica in July 1995, after Dutch UN peacekeepers failed to protect a UN safe “zone”.
Authorities said the seven men arrested are suspected of killing about 800 Bosniaks near Orahovac, as this area was seized by the Republika Srpska Army.
The former International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Court of Justice have declared genocide this tragedy.
More than 50 people have been sentenced to prison sentences for genocide and other crimes in Srebrenica.
Victims' bodies have been extracted from more than 80 mass graves in Srebrenica and in nearby Zvornik and Bratunac areas
Radovan Karadzic, the first president of the Republika Srpska, the predominantly Serb entity who, along with the Bosniak and Croat federation, made up Bosnia, was sentenced to life in prison for genocide and other crimes, including in Srebrenica.
He is serving his sentence in a British prison.
Former Republika Srpska Army Commander Ratlko Mladic is serving a life sentence for genocide as well. / REL
