US Ambassador to Belgrade Christopher Hill, at the “Economic Forum of Belgrade”, has spoken of the negotiation process between Kosovo and Serbia. Hill has said Kosovo continues to remain a difficult topic, citing 1999 and 2008 as the key date. The American diplomat has said it is clear that there are still unresolved issues between the two states and that the EU is insistently trying for a solution to these problems.
Hill has mentioned association, saying it is necessary for Serbs to know what their lives will be like.
Kosovo is a difficult topic in this country, has a key date of 1999 and 2008, it is clear that there are topics that remain and have not been resolved. The European Union is persistently trying to resolve these issues. In the Brussels process, there are elements that are on the table what needs to be done at last. The experienced US diplomat has recalled the fact that Kosovo, even after 15 years of independence, continues not yet to be recognised by 5 European Union member states and many other countries of the world.
Christopher Hill has suggested that Kosovo needs more capacities to be an international player. He says that at the table it is the initial idea for Kosovo to establish the Association of Serb-run municipalities and in exchange to receive a pull of Serbia to allow Kosovo to seek membership in the international community.
Hill says that's not easy, but that should happen.
