Secretary Shapps said the request for sending peacekeeping troops was made by NATO's Supreme Command.
“There has been a request by NATO Allied Supreme Commander Europe, so I have authorised the deployment of a US-sized strategic Kingdom reserve force in NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo,” told his party's Activists, reports the British newspaper “Mirror”, Transit Express.
He said the battalion of about 200 soldiers would join 400 British men and women currently in Kosovo.
In the coming days, hundreds of soldiers from the First Royal Regiment Princess of Wales will join 400 British soldiers and women who are already in Kosovo. I know our soldiers will make the United Kingdom proud”, he said.
The British Defence Secretary has estimated that soldiers will help calm tense reports by providing security for all.
Shapps said: “The rapid diversification of troops in Kosovo is a powerful demonstration of the unprecedented capabilities and expertise of our armed forces. They would add enormous value to NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, helping to calm rising tensions in the region and keeping all peoples safe”.
