Leaders of the United States, Great Britain, France and Germany are expected to discuss this evening with video link to the situation in Israel and Palestinian territories, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.
“The US, Britain, France and Germany agree that this should not become a fire in the region. That is why no one should continue to promote terror in this” situation, Scholz told reporters in the German town of Hamburg.
Scholz stood by French President Emmanuel Macron, invited to the northern German port for a joint meeting of the governments of the two countries, broadcast Telegrafi.
Macron expressed his total solidarity “with the Israeli people and said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyah again this morning.
Germany and France stand next to the Israeli people at this tragic moment. The fight against terrorism is a common goal that we will continue to pursue with Israel and our allies. Nothing justifies, nothing explains”, Macron said.
The French president's office later announced that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melon would also join the invitation as part of the so-called Quint, an informal group consisting of the US, Great Britain, France, Germany and Italy.
