Pella's mother, who turned 100 last November, does not know yet about the death of her son, who was hit by cancer at the age of 82.
O Ray's sister Maria Lucia, who cares for Celeste, has made that known.
Maria said she spoke to her mother Doña Celeste about her son's condition and made him understand the seriousness of the situation, saying that she would pray for his health but did not tell him that he died:
She doesn't know. We talk, but she doesn't know. It's in her little world. Sometimes you realize, sometimes you don't. She opens her eyes and I say, let's pray for her. She is not conscious”, Maria explained, speaking of ESPN.
On November 20th, Doña Celeste celebrated her 100th anniversary and Pele congratulated her with a post on social networks: “Today we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Doña Celeste's life. From an early age, she taught me the value of love and peace.
I have more than a hundred reasons to be grateful to be your son. I share these pictures with you, with great excitement to celebrate this day. Thank you for every day on your arm, Mom.
At that, Pelée's sister, Maria Lucia, has related the last moments of her brother's life:
It's been very difficult, we know we're not eternal, but it really hurt my heart. We got close to him, he felt that he was leaving, he was quiet, we spoke a little, feeling like I knew he was leaving. Being very religious when he told me it was in God's hand”.
Maria spoke and about the impact on the football world: “I think football dies a little bit with it. What it represented, what lived in the world of football will be very difficult to overcome”.
