In an interview for the Serbian weekly “NIN”, Hill said the Western orientation Serbia should do “for the sake of their children, and their children's children”.
But besides, “also for all other possible reasons”.
Many young people from Serbia leave for the West. I don't see them going east. So I think that's all clear where Serbia wants to go.
The United States of America, Ambassador Hill said, Serbia considers it a partner and supports its European path, the Serbian daily “Danas” reported, Reporter.net broadcasts.
I'd like to see Serbia, our friend and partner, maybe one day making a decision to join NATO”, the ambassador said.
Hill said you understand the “bar that is heavy from the past”, referring to events in 1999, where Serbia was bombed by 19 states of the North Atlantic Alliance.
“E knows that it would be difficult for Serbia to decide something like this [NATO membership], but that would be the concentration of my efforts to draw Serbia”.
Asked about Serbia remains the only country on the European continent [with the exception of Belarus] Hill said Serbia should join Western countries.
For me, it is clear that Serbia's issue of sanctions is complicated for historical reasons, but everyone must be clear about what Russia has done”, Hill said.
Serbia has refused to sanction Russia, though it has voted a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression over Ukraine.
As Serbian politicians have argued since February 24th, Russia's non-sanction has to do with the Russian Security Council to Kosovo, dependence on Russian gas, projections for a Slavic-orthodox past between Serbia and Russia, as well as public opinion (about 80%) rejection of the sanctions, Reporter writes.net.
Serbia as a candidate country for EU membership, in negotiations for membership is obliged to co-ordinate (harmony) its foreign and security policies with the European Union, respectively, with the 27 other current union states.
Foreign policy, Serbia still keeps it between East and West, as well as security, to a large extent co-ordinated with Russia and China.
A number of European ultimatums and resolutions have been directed to Serbia to emerge from its ambition and to show which side belongs to the western world of lyridase, or the despotic East.
So far, Serbia has pledged that it will not sever relations and co-operation in these key foreign and security political areas with the East.
