Agreement on renovation of the contract appears far-off, Busquets expected to leave Barcelona

Sergio Busquets intends to leave Barcelona after the season ends.

The captain of the Catalonians has valid contracts until June 30th, 2023, and is not expected to renew it, Report Express broadcast.

The club, which tried to reduce the salary list, offered Busquets to postpone taking part of the money under the contract, provided the contract was extended another year, but received a refusal.

By “El Nacional”, Busquets will not sign a new contract with Barcelona. He reportedly wants to be transferred to MLS in the transitional term of next year's summer.

The Spanish midfielder, along with his agent, has met several times with club president Joan Laporta, but during these meetings the parties have failed to reach understanding. A few weeks ago, communication between them ceased and the positions of the player and the club are far apart. Busquets is no longer willing to make “sacrifice”, as he believes he has already made sufficient efforts for Barca.

The 34-year-old is part of Barcelona's first team since 2008.
