Spain has reported the first death associated with monkey smallpox in what is the first known victim in Europe and the second outside Africa in the current explosion.
The country's Health Ministry confirmed the death today, but did not immediately provide further details about the person, Telegrafi broadcast.
Brazil reported its first death associated with monkeypoke outside the African continent in the current explosion early Friday.
In its latest report, the Spanish Health Ministry said 4,298 cases were confirmed in the country.
Of the 3,750 patients for whom he had information, 120 are said to have been admitted to a hospital of 3.2 percent and one has died without further details.
